How do I put this delicately? Do you have a cheese grater?

The year 2009 is all about distressed, ripped and shredded—kind of like our economy, I guess. So if you want your skinny jeans to stay hip, you’ll need to put them through the ringer. Or, to be more precise, the grater.

“Get out the old kitchen cheese grater and lightly distress the knees, upper thighs, pocket seems and lower tush area—not too much or you’ll regret it,” says Marcus Paglialonga, stylist at Ron Herman/Fred Segal Center in Los Angeles. “Then snip a half-inch up the outer seam on the bottom hemline of the leg. This will allow for that 7 1/2-inch ankle opening to fit a bit higher.” Finally, he says, “loosely double-cuff both legs.”

As for what to pair with your poor, psychologically traumatized jeans? Easy. Literally. Go for an easy look. For day, Paglialonga tells me, “pair with classic Keds, a vintage, sheer T-shirt and cardiganor shrunken blazer.” A loose silk tank would also work wonderfully, Paglialonga says. For a night look, throw on your favorite heels and an oversize blouse.

First-Ever Hermès Helicopter Lands in the United Arab Emirates

Aviation isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when we think of Hermès. But the French house indeed took to the sky for its latest collaboration, creating a helicopter in conjunction with Eurocopter. The chopper, which is named L’Hélicoptère par Hermès, features a white, brown, and orange color scheme, toile “H” fabric on the cockpit, and handcrafted seats upholstered in Hermès calf leather. It sold for $6 million to Falcon Aviation Services in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and will be used to host business travelers.
